Matt Urquhart

Matt is the co-caption head and battery arranger for the KUMU Drumline. As an alumni of Kutztown University, he achieved a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Media with a minor in music. He was a 4-year member of various percussion-based performing groups on campus including KUMU, KU Percussion Ensemble, and World Percussion. 

He also played snare drum and served as drum captain in the Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps based in Reading, PA from 2005-2009. The corps went undefeated during that time, earning five consecutive DCA World Championships and high percussion awards. 

Teaching and arranging marching percussion has been a huge part of Matt’s life since 2003. For nearly a decade, Matt played a large role in the Central Bucks High School South music program in Warrington, PA. Positions he’s fulfilled incude band director, assistant band director, percussion caption head, battery arranger, and show design team member. During the 2011, 2012, and 2013 seasons, the Marching Titans were awarded 1st place in their class and were presented with the high percussion award at both national championships and state championships. 

Matt has been involved with many other competitive high school programs including Hempfield High School, Wilson High School, Parkland High School, and Governor Mifflin Senior High School. Many of his former students have gone on to perform with world renowned drum and bugle corps, indoor percussion ensembles, and college marching bands including: The Bluecoats, The Cadets, Jersey Surf, Phantom Regiment, Raiders, Reading Buccaneers, Field of View, Matrix Percussion, Penn State Indoor, United Percussion, University of Delaware, Kutztown University, Millersville University, Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh, Temple University, West Chester University, and University of Wyoming.

Currently, Matt is co-owner and creative director for Skynine Cinema, a video and live event production company in Lehigh Valley. He resides in Lansdale, PA with his beautiful wife, Rachael, and his lovable Mini Australian Shepherd named Kelby.
